To Hunt a Fairy - Improv Feature Film
Feature film entry for Joel Haver's Oscars film challenge: Instead of watching The Oscars, make a film DURING the Oscars!
Starring:
Savannah Lutman
Joseph Bunting

This film was recorded in entirety during the 2022 Oscars award show. ONLY what was recorded during the 3 hours on Sunday, March 27th, from 5pm to 8pm, is permitted to be used. A week was given to edit the production. Here is my submission: To Hunt a Fairy, benkesselmedia's very first feature film!

To accomplish this challenge, we set two cameras to record nonstop for the 3 hours and improvise the majority of our entry. We began with a simple starter premise of a basic setting and character description, but had no idea of the events that would occur, much less the final ending, until we began shooting.
The cards drawn during the film were shuffled live and drawn at random while filming - so we also had no idea of our "antagonists" until the show started!
None of us had ever been in an improv production before.
Savannah and Joseph, the two actor-improvisers joining me, hadn't even met each other until an hour before cameras went live.
All things considered, this was one of the most chaotic and fun film projects I've ever worked on! Certainly an extreme in its own right, but the methodology behind fast, structure-free filmmaking will remain a big part of what I produce from here on out.
